Here, we introduce one of our main characters, Clara Friedman. This first issue will be mostly a "getting to know the cast" episode, but don't worry-the action will pick up soon enough.

lol the old "comic book in a book trick" Classic. :P
Captain Goodheart reminds me of Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern. Or possibly Kyle Raynor. No wait! He has the same hair as a version of Nightwing! Well anyway I approve. :)

I like Clara, she tells it like it is.

Hands up if you've ever done THAT before. XDXD

I just needed her to be reading a generic superhero comic, and the name just came out in like, five seconds. XD Although to be fair, the lines of dialouge they had ARE hinting at something that's going to happen much later in the storyline.

Clara's a hard character to get the ballance on. I wanted her to be a smart mouth, but not to the point of being an outright jerk.

I like the art style so far. It feels kind of stylized, and the coloring and shading looks great. ^_^

Thanks. The simple, streamline style works for me because one; it's easier, and two; easier means the pages can be done faster.

Glad you like the coloring. Although, to me, I'd really like it to look more like the cell-shading they do on regular cartoons on TV. I've been practicing to try and get it right, so I think once I've got it down pat, I'll switch the shading to that style.

Nice color selection. And an interesting take on the character design. Very original. :)

Thanks! When I first started learning how to draw, I tried copying Bruce Timm's style. Then gradually, some manga influences got mixed in, until my style took shape like this. XD

Points for the book being right side up at least.

Yeah, Clara's not good at reading stuff upside down. XDXD

You have a really artistic style! I love the comic within a comic, and the vintage style you drew it in. It would be cool to see whether her comic book parallels her life as the story goes on!

Thank you SO much for all the comments and encouragement. We'll be in touch!

Thanks. I was trying to make it look super comic-booky (if that makes any sense, like dot shading, flat colors, etc.), so that it was easier to see the jump from fantasy to reality.

I just thought her reading a comic would be a good intro for her character-to show some of her hobbies. I'm not sure if I'll go so far as to parallel the two, but funny you should mention it. The stuff the characters are saying ARE foreshadowing something that's going to happen much later in the series.

But who knows, you might've given me an idea. ^^

And you're welcome; your comic's awesome!

Ah Clara, you remind me so much of my own younger days in school...

I love the colorful and simplistic style that you use, KarToon. It makes for a great read! =)
